Man City goalkeeper Ederson will miss the FA Cup final because of a fractured eye socket.

The 30-year-old Brazil international was unhappy at being replaced in Tuesday night’s 2-0 win over Tottenham.

Pep Guardiola decided it was too risky to keep Ederson on the pitch.

Stefan Ortega replaced Ederson after 69 minutes, and the Brazilian will miss City’s remaining fixtures.

Ederson required lengthy treatment on the pitch after being involved in a nasty collision with Tottenham defender Cristian Romero. The Brazilian continued to play on after he was assessed by City doctors.

Ortega made some key saves after replacing Ederson against Spurs, and he is set to stay between the sticks for City’s final two games.

After the match, Guardiola said the 30-year-old goalkeeper was not concussed.

“Ederson did not have concussion, he had a problem with his eye,” said Guardiola, as per The Standard. “He could not see properly, so the doctor said I should change.”

City host West Ham on Sunday, knowing victory – or matching Arsenal’s result against Everton – will be enough to seal a fourth consecutive title.

Then it’s the FA Cup final a week later on 25 May. Manchester United will go into that tie as the underdogs, and it comes as a boost that we’ve got key players returning from injury.

Ortega usually plays in the FA Cup for City, therefore, was likely to feature at Wembley even if Ederson was fit enough to play.
